Body awareness, motor control, balance and spatial relations (left, right, front, back, over under next to on top of etc.) are precursors early learning. We learn spatial concepts first in relation to our own body and then in relation to others and our environment. Using the names of clothing and naming the body parts while dressing helps youngsters develop language and a mental image of their body parts and body in relationship to one another. Learning to dress and keep at it until success is reached develops a child’s ability to pay attention, harness the little frustrations that lead to moments of pride, shared by the two of you.
